Why Your Lash Extensions Suddenly Look Twisted (It’s Not What You Think)

Have your lash extensions ever suddenly looked bent, frizzy, or out of shape?
Before you think it’s a “bad lash set” or poor retention —most of the time, it’s actually heat damage.
What Causes Lash Extensions to Twist?

The most common reason is high heat exposure.
This can happen more easily than you think, especially during daily activities like:
Opening the oven
Standing too close to hot steam
Cooking with strong heat
Using hot tools near your face
When hot air or steam hits your lashes directly, it can soften the extension fibers, causing them to lose their shape and curl in the wrong direction.
Why It Happens So Fast
Lash extensions are designed to be lightweight and flexible. But that also means they are sensitive to high temperatures.
A quick moment of hot air — like opening the oven and leaning in right away —can be enough to cause visible damage.
Is It a Retention Problem?
No.
If your lashes are still attached but look twisted or messy,it is not a retention issue and not a problem with your lash artist.
It simply means the lashes have been affected by heat.

How to Prevent It
Simple habits can make a big difference:
Open the oven and wait a few seconds before getting close
Avoid direct exposure to hot steam
Be mindful when using heat tools near your face
Small changes = longer-lasting, better-looking lashes.
Can It Be Fixed?
Once lash extensions are heat-damaged, they usually cannot return to their original shape.
The best solution is a refill or replacement to restore a clean, fresh look.
Final Note
If your lashes suddenly change shape, don’t worry —it’s a very common situation I see with clients.
It’s not about “good or bad lashes.”It’s just about understanding how to care for them properly.
